GTA 6 development likely began shortly after GTA V’s release in 2013, with early conceptualization and planning stages. However, the bulk of the development work did not start until after Red Dead Redemption 2 was completed in 2018. GTA 6 is scheduled for release in Fall 2025 (between September-November 2025) for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The PC release is expected to follow later, potentially in late 2026, based on Rockstar’s previous release strategy for Red Dead Redemption 2. Therefore, although GTA 6 has been awaited for a long time, it is currently possible to get gta 5 modded accounts to play GTA 5. Why did GTA 6 take so long to develop? I guess there are several reasons:
1. Tri-State Liberty City Map
Grand Theft Auto IV was supposed to be much, much bigger than you think. The initial map draft of Tri-State Liberty City that was drawn, most notably with the presence of fields and mountains. The developmental team thought it was too big, so it had to be downgraded. This idea is revisited in GTA 6, which also explains why the development of this new Game took so long.
2. Rockstar’s Development Approach
Rockstar Games is known for taking their time with game development to ensure high quality. They likely started conceptualizing and planning GTA 6 shortly after GTA V’s release in 2013, but the bulk of the development work did not begin until after Red Dead Redemption 2 was completed in 2018.
3. Prioritizing Red Dead Redemption 2
For the first few years after GTA V, Rockstar’s primary focus was on developing Red Dead Redemption 2, which released in 2018 after around 8 years of development. This delayed significant work on GTA 6 until RDR2 was completed.
4. Scope and Ambition
GTA games are known for their massive open worlds, detailed environments, and complex systems. The sheer scope and ambition of GTA 6 likely requires an extensive development cycle to create the desired level of detail and polish that Rockstar is aiming for.
5. Technological Advancements
Rockstar may have wanted to take advantage of the latest hardware and technological advancements for GTA 6, such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. This could have extended the development time to fully utilize the capabilities of these new platforms.
6. Leaks and Setbacks
The major leak of GTA 6 gameplay footage in 2022 may have caused some disruption or setbacks in the development process, although Rockstar stated it would not significantly impact the overall timeline.
